ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Caroline Bryant-Bosa has worked in the fields of strategic philanthropy, global development and development finance for more than 15 years, having previously worked for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She is now consulting for this field, from Switzerland.

While working for EBRD, Caroline led a small business program, which helped businesses from Mongolia to Morocco access finance to grow. She helped the SMEs to obtain the critical finance they needed, developed a “women in business” program and a social enterprise program for the Western Balkans. While at the Gates Foundation, Caroline helped deliver a new funding strategy for the foundation to support blended / innovative financial mechanisms with government aid agencies, development finance institutions and Multi-lateral Development Banks. She also pushed forward a collaboration between Gates, the Islamic Development Bank and Middle Eastern donors, which resulted in a $2.5 billion fund to help Sovereign loans –in the health, agriculture and infrastructure sectors –reach the poorest of Islamic countries.

Since moving to Switzerland she engages in consulting assignments for family foundations, international organizations or Multi-lateral Development Banks that forge strong partnerships with multinational companies, NGOs, financial institutions and other multilateral organizations. Sectors she has focused on include environment, climate change, sustainability, health and agriculture.

Most projects are related to topics promoting sustainable business (including supply chain improvements and social enterprise development), sustainable and development finance initiatives (including blended finance instruments), project management and/or strategy development.

Recent projects include analyzing agricultural supply chain financing projects within Multi-lateral Development Banks, developing a disruptive supply chain insurance for the cocoa industry to stop deforestation in West Africa, as well as developing a grant-making strategy for a global foundation in the areas of sustainable investing, business as a force for good and circular economy models.
